Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. As a young girl her carnival barker father died and left her mother without a choice other than to be a cleaning lady and waitress in order to feed the family. Ruth lived in a slum Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She went to school there. She quit the school she was attending within two years of her education in order to pursue the profession of acting. The path she chose was filled with challenges. When she was offered a job at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she was unable to get opportunities on stage. Then, she worked as the hat checker in an evening club, before deciding to call it quits and returning to Boston. The city of Boston was where she worked during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. She earned a bachelor's diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
